Vail Mountain Tours

Carve your way through Vail’s most exciting winter terrain on a complimentary Mountain Tour. Led by experienced Mountain Hosts, these tours run throughout the week, giving you the opportunity to explore new trails, refine your mountain navigation and soak in sweeping views of the Rocky Mountains. Each one focuses on something different — whether it’s uncovering hidden powder stashes, getting to know the front side of the mountain or learning about Vail’s storied past. Get the most up-to-date info on days and meet-up times on the Vail Resorts website.

Note: These experiences are ideal for advanced-intermediate skiers and snowboarders — beginners should opt for ski and snowboard lessons — which include instruction.

Vail’s Free Mountain Tours

Frontside Mountain Welcome Tours

Did you know that the frontside of Vail Mountain — encompassing more than 128 trails — is larger than 90% of other ski mountains in North America? From gentle green hills to mogul-covered black diamonds to thrill-filled terrain parks, this tour is a great intro to the resort’s gondolas and terrain. Tours leave Sundays–Fridays at 10:30 a.m. from the top of Eagle Bahn Gondola at the Eagles Nest.

Blue Sky Basin Tours

Feel the wind in your hair as you explore this wide-open, snowy expanse with soaring views of Gore Range. Blue Sky Basin covers 645 skiable acres that are left largely ungroomed for the best morning freshies. Let a guide bring you to the coolest spots in this powder-filled playground. Tours leave Sundays–Fridays at 10:30 a.m. from the Legacy Hut at the top of Chair 4.

Women’s Winter Tours

Gather your favorite group of ladies (or get to know some other women who ski!) and join in the Women’s Winter Tours on Wednesdays all winter long. These guided adventures are perfect for bachelorette parties and girls’ trips, taking you to scenic and exciting spots on the mountain. Tours leave on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. from the Legacy Hut at the top of Chair 4.

Legacy Tours

As one of the most iconic winter-sports resorts in the world, Vail’s ski trails carry a rich history. As you wander, you’ll notice signs with a large, blue upside teardrop that reads “Legacy Stop” — these will tell the stories of the 10th Mountain Division soldiers who trained nearby, local flora and fauna, and the founders who helped establish the town and mountain. Tours leave on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m.
