Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP)

Stand-up paddle-boarding is one of the most enjoyable activities to submerge yourself in nature and explore the incredible lakes and rivers in and around Vail! Whether you have your own board and need to rent one, we suggest making this a part of your summer or fall itinerary. In the beginning, we recommend starting on calm water, ponds and lakes are preferable. As you gain experience and confidence, you will be ready to head out onto the calmer nearby rivers.

Piney Lake

Set on Piney River Ranch and nestled at the foot of the majestic Gore Range, Piney is a forty-acre Rocky Mountain retreat, long known as a favorite day-trip and SUP destination. Guests can explore Piney Lake in a canoe or SUP, starting at $30 per hour for the board, paddle and life jacket OR a $10 launch fee if you have your own gear.

Nottingham Lake

Stand Up Paddle Colorado offers SUPing in Nottingham Lake in the heart of Avon, just a short drive west of Vail. With stunning views of Beaver Creek, paddling this little lake may be one of the most fun things you do this summer. A variety of SUP boards are available, big and stable or large enough for the whole family!  Enjoy a day “at the beach” on Nottingham Lake!

Colorado River

As you gain experience you can paddleboard Class I and II sections of the Colorado River and then as you get even more skilled you can begin boating smaller, faster rivers or the class III and IV sections of the Colorado River. Many of the local rafting companies offer SUP tours based on ability and SUP rentals.  Be sure to check river levels and hire a guide if this is your first time on our area rivers.
