Vail Nature Center
Part of the Walking Mountains Science Center, the Vail Nature Center is a preserved historical 1940s homestead located in Vail Village. This 7-acre gem of mountain meadows and forested creekside trails is the perfect place to get away from it all while still being close to everything. There’s learning opportunities (don’t tell the kids!) with exhibits and knowledgeable staff inside to answer questions about local plants and wildlife.
Plus, your whole crew can enjoy programs including easy nature walks, expert-led backcountry treks, beaver pond tours, wildflower viewing and nature tours along Gore Creek. All ages, free (donations accepted).
There is no parking at the Vail Nature Center. Simply take the in-town bus to the soccer fields stop on Vail Valley Drive and follow the path down toward the creek to find the center.
Hours vary depending upon the season. Call or check online for up-to-date openings and event information.

Vail Nature Center FAQs

No, there is no parking available at the Vail Nature Center. However, there are several spots in the lot by Vail Athletic Fields. It’s across from the trail which leads to the center entrance. Better yet, ditch your car and take the bus.
Do I need tickets for the Vail Nature Center?

Please note: Not all tours and walks depart from the nature center. Check the location of your activity before arrival.
What is the difference between Vail Nature Center and the Nature Discovery Center?
Both locations are part of the Walking Mountains Science Center and offer seasonal, nature-themed activities. However, Vail Nature Center is located in the Vail Village, near The Amp, while the Nature Discovery Center is set atop Vail Mountain and is best reached via a scenic gondola ride.
What should I bring on a Vail Nature Center program?
These programs often involve a fair amount of walking, so you’ll want to wear sturdy, comfortable shoes as well as a jacket or puffer depending upon the season. You’ll also want sunglasses or a hat, a charged cellphone for pictures and a water bottle to stay hydrated, especially in summer.
