Vail Public Library

The Town of Vail Public Library is a serene sanctuary resting along the cascading Gore Creek on the east end of Lionhead Village. Stop inside for a quiet afternoon reading in a cozy alcove or wander the grounds on the winding waterside trails right behind the building. You can even check their calendar to attend children’s story times, craft sessions and other events that will keep the kiddos busy and curious.

A Resource for Locals & Visitors

While Vail’s library is a gem most often used by residents (they’re the ones who can claim a card to check out items and take them home), it’s also a perfectly peaceful place for visitors to explore. Along the shelves, anyone can uncover over 50,000 media resources, from books to DVDs to CDs and more. They also have more than 260,000 online resources — including audio books, eMagazines, video and music — that library cardholders can download from anywhere. But rest assured, any visiting bookworm is welcome to walk inside, find a seat by the fireplace and crack open a novel during their trip. And digital nomads are welcome to stop in, connect to free Wi-Fi and get some work done in a distraction-free setting.

Programming

The Vail Public Library hosts a variety of interactive programs designed for all ages. Special events often feature live performances from local musicians, author talks and workshops led by local artists. If you’re into gardening, instructional classes dive into seasonal planting tips, composting techniques and sustainability. Free computer classes also explore tech essentials — and even the use of a 3D printer — where you can create your own designs from scratch.

Nature & Education

Just steps from the Vail Public Library, the soothing sounds of Gore Creek invite you outside. Running along the water, a paved path offers a scenic route ideal for an afternoon stroll that winds through the villages and over the covered bridge. Over in East Vail, roam around Bighorn Park to check out the StoryWalk ®, a year-round display where you can move from sign to sign, each showing a different page of a children’s book. The featured story changes seasonally, so it’s worth bringing the kids back every time you return.

Getting to Vail Public Library

Vail Public Library is located on the east side of Lionshead Village. If you’re driving, the nearest public parking area is the Lionshead Parking Structure, just a five-minute walk to the entrance of the building. For an eco-friendly option, hop on a free, in-town Vail bus, which will whisk you right to the library from stops throughout the villages.
