VAIL GOLF CLUB FALL IMPROVEMENTS

(Vail, Colo.) – The fall season at the Vail Golf Course is well underway, and golfers have been enjoying discounted rates and beautiful autumn days out at the course. We plan to close for the season on Sunday, Oct. 9, so get your golf in now if you can!

As the golf season slowly winds down, golf maintenance staff are preparing to make repairs to Hole 7, which will be closed for the rest of the 2022 season (18 holes will still be available for play; see below for details). Staff will also start work on solid tining 12 holes and the fairways.

Sinkhole Repair

The Vail Recreation District, in collaboration with Town of Vail Public Works, will be excavating several sinkholes that were found on Hole 7. Work begins at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 and will continue until the area is deemed safe for golf play. Hole 7 will be closed for play for the remainder of the season – however, the Vail Golf Club will continue to provide 18 holes of golf by utilizing the 19th hole that was built specifically for just such an occasion.

The scope of work will include excavation of the sinkholes to determine the extent and cause of damage to the golf green and bunker. Damaged areas will be repaired with structural material and will be returned to their original condition, ensuring a safe and enjoyable golf experience for our guests.

Solid Tining

Golf maintenance staff will be solid tining the 12 new golf greens (1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17) on Sept. 26 and 27. They will use a 5/8 inch solid tine to help relieve compaction. After each green has been solid tined, they will fill all the holes with sand, roll and fertilizer the green.

On Monday, Sept. 26 the staff would like to have golfers start off the 10th tee, as this helps the maintenance team get ahead of golf during this solid tining process. Then, on Tuesday, Sept. 27, play can resume off of the 1st tee and the solid tining process will be finished ahead of all golfers.

Fairways and tee work will also begin Sept. 26. This year, the team will be solid tining the fairways and tees, and there will be no cleanup of plugs needed. Holes will be selected to not disrupt golf play.
