Mid Winter Events & Happenings
Winter is in full swing and so are events in Vail. Mark your calendar and plan your time in Vail so that you can be a part of the action!
Trail’s End Treats at Golden Peak – Feb 5, Feb 19, March 5, March 19, April 2, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The ideal winter time kids après ski treats, offerings and a family friendly atmosphere, Trail’s End Treats entices guests end their adventure in the Golden Peak base area. A picture perfect airstream being towed by a truck/SUV will anchor the space and be the hub for F&B service, while Adirondack chairs, picnic tables, bistro lighting and lawn games will create a welcoming slope-side gathering space for skiers of all abilities.
Meadow Mountain Skimo: Saturday, February 5
Participate of cheer on racers on this 2-mile loop with 800 vertical feet of elevation gain. Racers will begin and finish on the bench just above the Meadow Mountain parking lot and start up the open slope to looker’s right (west). Just above the Everkrisp trail closure, the skin track begins and includes a mandatory boot pack section. Expert skiers will be required to attached their skis to their packs during the race. Intermediate and beginner racers can shoulder their skis. The course then traverses to the south before descending to the ridge and down to the start/finish area. Each lap will include uphill skinning, downhill skiing and boot pack hiking. Helmets and metal edges are required for this race.

Cheer on our local and other team USA athletes competing in Beijing from Vail’s International Bridge, where a big screen will be streaming the daily action. Come show your support!
Vail Mountain Winter Uphill: Sunday, February 20
The annual Vail Mountain Winter Uphill Race returns as skiers, snowboarders and winter runners tackle 2,200 vertical feet of groomed trails to reach Eagle’s Nest at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead. This event is ideal for competitors and non-competitors featuring categories for each, and honors the memory of Vail local Lyndon Ellefson who was instrumental in starting the U.S. men’s mountain running program, with some of the entry fees supporting the U.S. Mountain Running Team. For the past twelve years, the Vail Mountain Uphill has proven to be a challenging midwinter competition for some, and a fun, non-competitive community hike for others.

Winter Mountain Games Preview – February 25 – 27
Are you a fan of the Summer Mountain Games? Then you’ll love what we have in store…..Don’t miss our newly launched Winter Mountain Games Preview event this February 25-27, and mark your calendars for the full launch of the event in 2023. The Winter Mountain Games. Events include various Skimo races, snowshoe races, dog derby, hill climb, fat tire biking and more! Live concerts take place Friday and Saturday nights featuring Low Cut Connie and Galactic (Friday) and JoJo Herman and Moon Taxi (Saturday) . Check out film showings, art, gear demos, sponsor activations, après events and more! Participate and cheer on the professional and amateur athletes competing shoulder to shoulder.
Vail Après – Daily & Live Music every 3rd Friday of the month
After a day of adventure, join in on the second awakening of Vail’s villages as bells ring to signify the start of Vail’s après ski scene. Kick off your skis, explore the villages with signature après food and drink, while you reminisce on the day’s best moments.
The 3rd Friday of the month, après with live music at a designated location from 3:00 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Tales of the 10th: January 28, February 18, March 14; 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Join us for the stories of the 10th Mountain Division soldiers of World War II. Learn about what the soldiers did upon returning from WWII and how they significantly contributed to the snow sports industry we all know and love today. The presentation takes place at the Colorado Snowsports Museum and lasts about an hour. Suggested donation of $5 per person. Following the presentation, join Vail Resorts and the Town of Vail for their Legacy Day Parades starting at 6pm at Gondola One!
10th Mountain Parades – February 18, March 4
We invite you to watch skiers dressed in traditional 10th Mountain Division Ski Trooper uniforms as they perform in a Torchlight Ski Down parade to the base of Gondola One. Then follow the parade of military veterans as they march from Gondola One, down Bridge Street, across the Covered Bridge, finishing at the 10th Mountain statue. The celebration also features a film, projected at the base of Gondola One, showcasing the history and legacy of the 10th Mountain Division. And, Vail’s Colorado Snowsports Museum will be open late after each parade for guests to visit and learn more about Colorado’s rich ski history and 10th Mountain Division.
Dine with the Dogs at Henry’s Hut on Vail Mountain – every Sunday through March
Helly Hansen invites you to grab an early lunch and meet members of Vail Ski Patrol and their avalanche dogs. Dog training, rescue drills and Q&As with patrollers are on the menu. Head over to Henry’s Hut (located at the top of Chairs 4 and 11) with your family and friends between 10:30 and 11:30AM every Sunday to meet the Pros!
Imagination Station Science Sundays
Learn through play! Kids ages 7-12 will collaborate, build and experiment through activities designed to teach scientific concepts and process. Play in Imagination Station exhibits will add to the fun. On many days, kids will leave with toys they built. Topics include rocket propulsion, kinetics, balance and more. Day/Hours: Eight Sundays, Jan 23-Feb 13 and March 6-27. Three hours each week from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost: $280 for the eight-week session or $50 to drop in (space available). This is a drop-off program – parents do not stay with children.
Vail Yeti Hockey
Check out the action of Vail’s semi-professional Hockey team as they take on teams from near and far at the Dobson Ice Arena!
Wednesday Art Walks – Every Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.
Enjoy this free one-hour walking tour through Vail Village with discussions of the history of the Vail Valley and importance of site-specific art in public places, including over 60 works ranging from sculptures, murals, playground components and site-integrated art.
15th Annual Winterfest: Now until the ice melts
Don’t miss the Vail Winterfest display of color, shape and light at this collaborative art installation on the Gore Creek Promenade.
