The Stars Come out to Shine at International Evenings of Dance

Partner Press Release – Vail Dance Festival

Vail, Colo., Aug 1, 2024 — The Vail Dance Festival’s celebrated International Evenings of Dance performances will take place this weekend, August 2 through August 3, at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail. Hosting some of the world’s best dancers and musicians, these popular performances will include different repertoire and casting each night with a variety of genres and styles to be performed including classical ballet, ballroom, street dance, tap, and more. Musicians scheduled to perform include Quartet-In-Residence Brooklyn Rider, Leonard Bernstein Composer-In-Residence Caroline Shaw, multi-instrumentalist Kate Davis, bass-baritone Davóne Tines, flutist Alex Sopp, guitarist Jayla Chee, and pianists Alan Moverman, Michael Scales, Joel Wenhardt, and Tony Siqui Yun.

International Evenings of Dance I
Friday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m.

YouthPower365’s Celebrate the Beat kicks things off with an opening number featuring Spencer Lenain, Scholar-In-Residence Kayla Mak, and Memphis jookin dancer Ron Myles. The program will then include Fancy Me featuring New York City Ballet’s Olivia Bell and KJ Takahashi, George Balanchine’s Chaconne with Lauren Lovette* and American Ballet Theatre’s Calvin Royal III, José Limón’s “Primavera” solo from Dances for Isadora featuring Frances Samson of the Limón Dance Company, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Act 2 Divertissement Pas De Deux) featuring New York City Ballet’s Mira Nadon* and Chun Wai Chan, a new duet featuring Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet dancer Adji Cissoko and Ron Myles, Romeo and Juliet (Balcony Pas De Deux) featuring Artist-In-Residence and New York City Ballet dancer Sara Mearns and Ben Rudisin of the National Ballet of Canada, a solo featuring tap dance superstar Michelle Dorrance, a ballroom duet featuring Denys Drozdyuk and Antonina Skobina, the return of Pam Tanowitz’s No Nonsense featuring Melissa Toogoodand American Ballet Theatre’s Herman Cornejo, an excerpt from George Balanchine’s Apollo featuring New York City Ballet’s Unity Phelanand Joseph Gordon. A host of American Ballet Theatre stars will also make special appearances including Calvin Royal III performing again in the second half of the program in Alvin Ailey’s Reflections in D, Isabella Boylston and James Whiteside in Christopher Wheeldon’s After the Rain, and Catherine Hurlin and Aran Bell in Marius Petipa’s Le Corsaire (Act 3 Pas De Deux).

International Evenings of Dance II
Saturday, August 3 at 5 p.m.

The early evening performance will include La Sylphide featuring New York City Ballet’s Olivia Bell* and Philip Duclos* of the Royal Danish Ballet, Merce Cunningham’s MinEvent featuring New York City Ballet’s Chun Wai Chan and Unity Phelan, American Ballet Theatre’s James Whiteside, Alessio Crognale-Roberts, Savannah Green of BalletX, Melissa Toogood, Daisy Kate Jacobson, and Stephanie Terasaki.

The evening continues with Swan Lake (Act 2 Pas De Deux) featuring Adji Cissoko of Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet and National Ballet of Canada’s Ben Rudisin, In Summer Fields (excerpt from Ives Songs) featuring Artist-In-Residence Sara Mearns and Gilbert Bolden III*, a preview of a new solo for Aran Bell choreographed by Tiler Peck, Romeo and Juliet (Balcony Pas De Deux) featuring American Ballet Theatre’s Catherine Hurlin and Calvin Royal III, Jukebox featuring Michelle Dorrance, Ron Myles*, and KJ Takahashi and George Balanchine’s Who Cares? featuring New York City Ballet’s India Bradley, Chun Wai Chan*, Joseph Gordon, Mira Nadon, Tiler Peck, along with Lauren Lovette, Scholar-In-Residence Kayla Mak*, Philadelphia Ballet’s Mayfield Myers*, Philip Duclos of the Royal Danish Ballet, and Broadway star Robbie Fairchild.

International Evenings of Dance III
Saturday, August 3 at 8 p.m.

Larry Keigwin’s Warm-Up will kick off the evening performance featuring Royal Danish Ballet’s Philip Duclos with Spencer Lenain and New York City Ballet’s KJ Takahashi, Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux featuring Tiler Peck and Joseph Gordon of New York City Ballet, Afternoon of a Faun with American Ballet Theatre’s Catherine Hurlin and Aran Bell, A Midsummer Nights Dream (Pas de Deux for Titania and Bottom) featuring New York City Ballet’s Unity Phelan and Gilbert Bolden III, Honey featuring Savannah Green and Jerard Palazo ofBalletX, a ballroom piece featuring Denys Drozdyuk and Antonina Skobina, Single Eye featuring Adji Cissoko of Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet and American Ballet Theatre’s Calvin Royal III, New York City Ballet’s Mira Nadon* and American Ballet Theatre’s Aran Bell in an excerpt from Giselle, George Balanchine’s Rubies Pas De Deux featuring India Bradley* and KJ Takahashi* of New York City Ballet, Carousel/A Dance featuring Lauren Lovette and Robbie Fairchild, Mass featuring Sara Mearns and bass-baritone singer Davóne Tines, and Swan Lake (Act 3 Pas De Deux) featuring Isabella Boylston and Herman Cornejo of American Ballet Theatre.
